Welcome Hannes, Raghd, My New Band Believe [UK] (SOW), Mietze Conte [AUT] (SOW), Småland, Freak Slug [UK] (SOW), Bricknasty [IE] (SOW), Westside Cowboy [UK] (SOW), and Olga Myko to Way Out West this summer!
There is something enigmatic about Hannes. Even though he has become a household name, his artistry remains light-years away from the polished pop star archetype. His music feels more like a serious form of play – soulful, free in structure, and marked by an imperfect perfection that feels both disarming and deeply human.
Without Black Midi, experimental indie rock would sound different today, and without bassist and co-vocalist Cameron Picton, Black Midi would not have held the same unique position. That same restless desire to challenge, stretch, and surprise continues on Picton’s self-titled debut as My New Band Believe, an album that is as complex as it is emotionally generous.
There is something refreshingly unpretentious about Freak Slug, yet the songs hit with unexpected emotional force. The project, led by Manchester-based Xenya Genovese, moves through a universe of fuzzy alternative rock, dreamy electronic soundscapes, trip-hop grooves, and distorted pop melodies with the ease of someone equally obsessed with cult bands from the 1990s and today’s chaotic internet aesthetic. On last year’s debut album “I Blow Out Big Candles,” Genovese transforms these influences into something messy, playful, seductive, and moving all at once.
In addition to this, we find Gothenburg-based genre blender Raghd, the distinctly unique Austrian electronic act Mietze Conte, rising pop star Olga Myko, Kite-affiliated ambient act Småland, bedroom-pop sensation Freak Slug, the eclectic Bricknasty, and indie rock band Westside Cowboy.
