The volunteer application for Way Out West 2020 will open early next year.

Way Out West Film is the third largest film festival in Sweden. By now, it is as essential for movie buffs as Way Out West is for music fans. The first batch of films for this year’s event will soon be announced. Every year about 35-40 movies is selected and shown at cinemas around Gothenburg as well as at the festival site in Slottsskogen.

Since it was established in 2011, the film programme at Way Out West has hosted premieres for films such as Searching for Sugarman, The Square, Boyhood, Palme and Monica Z. The film selection is a mixture of feature films, documentaries, tv-series and short films, often with a focus on music and social issues.

When is WOW 2020?

The fourteenth edition of Way Out West will take place in Slottsskogen Aug 13–15 2020.

My favorite artist just cancelled, can I return the ticket?

Please note that your ticket is for Way Out West Festival, not for a specific artist. Artist cancellation is not grounds for refund. At a festival event, both the organizer and the audience should take into account that last minute changes are possible. This could be, for example, a popular artist canceling their appearance due to unforeseen difficulties not related to the festival organizer. Therefore, unfortunately we cannot refund ticket prices due to individual artist changes. We also hope that our audience understand this, and the fact that these changes are often sudden and independent of the festival organizer. This way of dealing with possible changes is in connection to the common ways of operation in the festival scene at large.

You must exchange your ticket for a wristband at the festival entrance at Linnéplatsen before you can enter the festival site or attend any Stay Out West shows.

The opening hours are:

Wed Aug 12: 12.00 am – 10.00 pm
Thur Aug 13: 11.00 am – 10.00 pm
Fri Aug 14: 11.00 am – 10.00 pm
Sat Aug 15: 11.00 am – 10.00 pm

You must be over 13 years of age to attend Way Out West. Animals are not permitted on the festival site, so please leave your pets at home. We also ask you to show respect for the animals that call Slottsskogen home as they might not share your sense of humor.

No authorization is needed when photographing for private use. As a private person you are allowed to bring cameras and lenses with a zoom of up to 55mm. Stay Out West

When the last tone is played in Slottsskogen and the area becomes silent, the festival continues in venues all over central Gothenburg. This is a chance to experience big artists on smaller stages with an atmosphere that feels like nothing else.

Tips & advice

Clothing: Please bring suitable clothing. If rain is forecast bring rainwear. The evenings can be chilly, so please bring something warm to wear even if the weather is hot.

Earplugs are for sale at the official festival merchandise tent.

Food and drink: It’s important to drink plenty of water during the day especially if it’s warm and you’re also consuming alcohol. It’s also easy to miss putting some real food in your stomach when you’re busy running around seeing all your favorite bands, so please, don’t forget to drink and eat regularly throughout the day.

Sunscreen can be a good idea if you’re out in the sun all day so bring some with you.

Where should I stand? It is often quite crowded the closer to the stage you get. If you’re not used to being at concerts it may be wise to stand a bit further back. Should you wish to stand close but avoid the crowd, the sides are always a safe bet. Please watch out for the people around you!

Traveling to and from Gothenburg

When at all possible we recommend taking the train to Gothenburg. More information on getting to and from Gothenburg can be found here.

Traveling within Gothenburg

Like any metropolitan area, Gothenburg has an efficient public transportation system that can get you to and from the festival site and just about anywhere else you need to go in the city. More information can be found here.

Tree climbing

Please do not climb the trees on the festival site.

Umbrellas are not allowed at the festival. Unfolded umbrellas obstruct the vision of those behind you in the crowd, so please bring rainwear instead.

Wardrobe and storage units can be found outside the festival entrance.

Stay out West

Stay Out West is Way Out Wests club program (age limit 18+) that opens up in different areas/clubs around Gothenburg when the festival area in Slottsskogen closes. If you are over 18, these gigs are included in the festival pass. You can not buy a single ticket for Stay Out West only.

Please note that the clubs have limited capacity and you’re not guaranteed entrance. If there’s something you really don’t want to miss, come early. If you are traveling from another city or town in Sweden or Scandinavia we recommend that you take the train to and from Gothenburg. You can find train times, routes and book tickets at www.sj.se (Swedish Railways website). For those of you travelling from outside of Scandinavia you can find travel tips here: www.goteborg.com.

Slottsskogen is centrally located in Gothenburg and easy to reach both by walking and public transportation. We therefore recommend festivalgoers to use these means when getting around within the city.

Public Transport
For longer journeys in Gothenburg use the bus or tram. The nearest bus/tram stop is either Linnéplatsen or Marklandsgatan.
