You never know quite what to expect from Blood Orange but you can bet you’re gonna get inspired. Dev Hynes’ more and more refined, sensual and vulnerable bedroom-r’n’b has wide open windows where sirens, talk, screams, laughter and all kinds of street noise seeps in. It’s music that embraces soul, funk, jazz, hip-hop, adventurous electronics, identity issues and humanity, and it’s never less than relevant. All the craftsmanship, curiosity and vision has made this Englishman in New York one of our time’s most influential producers, songwriters and artists.
Some of you might remember Dev Hynes from punk rock band Test Icicles, even more are probably familiar with his work in indie faves Lightspeed Champion, but it is as Blood Orange he’s become a household name and contemporary kind of icon. Over the years, he has collaborated with artists such as Solange, Blondie, Britney Spears, Sean ”Puff Daddy” Combs, A$AP Rocky and Florence + The Machine, to new just a few. Blood Orange charmed the audience as Way Out West in 2014 and the risk that it won’t happen again is non-existent. After all, since last time around he has enriched the world with not one but two masterpieces, Freetown Sound and Negro Swan.
