HiTech

If you’ve never heard of ghettotech before, now is a good time to change that. Emerging from Detroit in the late 1980s, the genre fuses the city’s techno legacy with Chicago house, rap, electro and the raw energy of punk, carrying forward the traditions of Black electronic music while constantly reinventing them. Few contemporary acts embody that spirit better than HiTech. Comprised of King Milo, Milf Melly and 47Chops, the Detroit trio have become one of ghettotech’s most vital new voices, updating its breakneck rhythms, booming bass and irreverent humor with a distinctly modern sensibility. It is difficult to imagine music like this being born anywhere but Detroit. Earlier this year they returned with “HONEYPAQQ, Vol. 1”, a mixtape that transforms the feeling of an unforgettable basement party into music: sweaty, hilarious, chaotic and irresistibly physical. Their infamous live shows push that energy even further, inviting audiences to lose themselves completely somewhere between a rave, rap show and glorious mayhem. This summer, HiTech bring that unforgettable chaos to Way Out West.
