It is no secret that Sven Wunder is a crate-digger. One can easily imagine his shelves packed with forgotten film soundtracks, Italian library records, easy listening obscurities, exotica oddities and jazz albums long since vanished from circulation. Perhaps that is also why his music has become such fertile ground for sampling, finding its way into tracks by artists as varied as Tyler, The Creator, Danny Brown and Czarface. But Sven Wunder’s music hardly requires historical context or sample credits to justify its existence. It stands perfectly well on its own. On the acclaimed 2025 album “Daybreak”, Wunder turns his attention to the quiet beauty of new beginnings. Flutes flicker, strings unfold with unhurried elegance and drums gently propel the music forward, every arrangement seemingly designed to let the day arrive at its own pace. Yet for all its reverence for the past, Sven Wunder’s music never feels nostalgic for nostalgia’s sake. Few artists understand better that the most interesting way to honor musical history is to keep pushing it forward. This autumn, Sven Wunder provides the soundtrack to Stay Out West.

Sven Wunder will perform at Stay Out West on Friday August 14th
