Recognition rarely travels evenly across the globe. For rappers emerging from East Africa, the distance between influence and international acknowledgement can still be vast. MC Yallah is one of those artists who has long deserved a wider stage. Born in Kenya and raised in Uganda, she has been a vital force in the region’s hip-hop scene since the late ’90s, building a reputation for a style that refuses to reduce its intensity. Her music is raw, dark and rhythmically relentless. Moving between Luganda, Luo, Kiswahili and English, MC Yallah delivers rapid-fire, tongue-twisting verses that lock into hard-edged electronic production — from sparse, creeping beats to hyper-charged East African club tempos. Her lyrics cut deep, rooted in resilience, empowerment and lived experience, confronting both personal and political realities without compromise. Her collaboration with French producer Debmaster, solidified on the 2019 debut album “Kubali,” gave that intensity a stark, futuristic framework. The follow-up, “Yallah Beibe” (2023), pushed further into experimental club territory, while “Gaudencia” (2025) feels sharper and more self-assured still. This summer, MC Yallah & Debmaster bring that fierce, forward-looking sound to Way Out West.

MC Yallah & Debmaster will perform in Slottsskogen on Friday August 14th.
