World premiere of Way Out West’s own film award The Flamingo, honouring the best in film and music-in-film from this year’s programme. Five golden flamingos, presented live in front of the festival audience by the jury! The ceremony is presented by Per Nordmark — drummer (Fireside, Breach) and host of the long-running Nordmark Pod
This year’s jury awards:
Best Film — the best feature film in the festival’s programme, regardless of genre. Way Out West’s highest honour, and the music world’s own film prize.
Best Music in Film/TV — awarded for the best use of music in film or television, in fiction, documentary or hybrid form. The film and music worlds’ tribute to the musicians behind it.
Best Music Doc — the best music documentary in this year’s programme.
Best Short Film — the best short film from the festival’s short film programme, a tribute to new talent. The winner is announced on Saturday.
Two more awards — decided differently:
WOW Rising Flamingo — this award goes to an actor or director on the rise, someone to watch.
WOW Audience Flamingo — chosen by you! Vote for your favourite in the festival app. Winner is announced on Saturday, once all screenings have taken place.
This year’s jury:
Amy Deasismont — screenwriter, director and actress, currently scriptwriter of the Cannes-awarded TV series Svärtan.
Göran Hugo Olsson — director behind acclaimed documentaries including The Black Power Mixtapeand Israel Palestine on Swedish Television 1958-1989.
Josef Kullengård — Head of Industry at the Gothenburg Film Festival.
Alba August — actress and director known for Becoming Astrid and The Rain, with a growing music career under her own name.
Lisa Nordström — composer, awarded a Guldbagge in 2022 for Children of the Enemy.
