Since 2011, the film program has been an essential part of the festival experience, premiering everything from acclaimed music documentaries to major international feature films. As in previous years, many directors and actors will be present for screenings at Cinema Slottsskogen and other local theatres.
We’re now proud to present the 2025 film program. See the first announced titles here – with more coming soon!
Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value (Grand Prix winner at Cannes, with a 19-minute standing ovation) gets its Swedish premiere, starring Stellan Skarsgård, Elle Fanning, and Renate Reinsve. Materialists, the much-anticipated new film from Past Lives director Celine Song, also premieres – starring Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans, and Pedro Pascal.
Ari Aster’s explosive modern western Eddington – featuring Joaquin Phoenix, Emma Stone, Pedro Pascal, and Austin Butler – also premieres in Sweden at the festival.
Among the new Swedish films are Kevlarsjäl by Maria Eriksson-Hecht and Leva lite by Fanny Ovesen – strong, youthful stories with several debut performances.
After last year’s success, this year’s Midnight Movies bring horror every night, including the Swedish premiere of Hemmet with Gizem Erdogan, Philip Oros, and Lily Wahlsteen in attendance; A24’s buzzed-about Together by Michael Shanks; and The Ugly Stepsister by Emilie Blichfeldt, starring a Swedish ensemble.
In the documentary section: You Die When You’re Young follows three youths in Biskopsgården over three turbulent years. Confessions of a Swedish Man is Hampus Linder’s raw, personal take on masculinity and fatherhood. In Teater är den nya hiphopen, Amiin Madar explores performance art as identity and resistance, while Ultras by Ragnhild Ekner dives into global football fan cultures. Simon Gärdenfors debuts with Serietecknaren, a satirical hybrid of comics, reality, and self-reflection.
Music takes center stage in several films: Legacy by Manal Masri explores the legacy of jazz musicians who came to Sweden in the 1960s; Pavements by Alex Ross Perry is a one-of-a-kind hybrid film about the legendary band; Ellis Park by Justin Kurzel tells the story of Nick Cave’s collaborator Warren Ellis. Bam Bam: The Sister Nancy Story honors the groundbreaking dancehall artist, and We Are Fugazi From Washington D.C. is a fierce portrait of the iconic hardcore band.
Cinema Slottsskogen is presented in collaboration with Film i Väst. More titles and our popular short film program – featuring ten new Swedish shorts—will be announced later this summer.
