Today we’re closing this year’s film program with 18 new titles: eleven features and documentaries plus an entire short film program of seven Swedish shorts. Expect a world premiere, several Nordic and Swedish premieres, two party-along screenings – and more directors on site than ever before.

Matt Johnson’s Tony gets its Nordic premiere – the story of 19-year-old Anthony Bourdain stumbling into a chaotic Provincetown kitchen and finding his life’s calling, with Dominic Sessa as Bourdain and Antonio Banderas as his mentor. It currently sits at 98% on Rotten Tomatoes. We’re also bringing the Swedish premiere of The Weight by Padraic McKinley, a survival drama set in 1930s Oregon with Ethan Hawke and Russell Crowe, and the Nordic premiere of Alex Gibney’s Knife: The Attempted Murder of Salman Rushdie, based on Rushdie’s own memoir.

Tamra Davis comes to Gothenburg to present The Best Summer in conversation with Jan Gradvall – her own footage from touring with Beastie Boys, Sonic Youth, Foo Fighters, Pavement, Beck and Bikini Kill in 1995–96, interviews made by no other than Kathleen Hanna. More music: Jawbreaker, about Scandinavian hardcore punk legends Anti Cimex, and Broder Daniel Forever in a newly restored version. Play Shoreline!

The graffiti documentary Tunnel Vision by Lukas Wigardt gets its world premiere in a live version with DJ Crime, and director and lead subject both join us for Flygande Fisken. 25 years after the Gothenburg riots we’re screening Moodysson and Jarl’s Terrorister – en film om de dömda, with one of its ex convicts present for a conversation.

Late on Friday and Saturday night: sing along to Mamma Mia! and The Rocky Horror Picture Show, followed by the now-classic karaoke before the grounds close.

This year’s short film program is seven Swedish shorts, all nominated for The Flamingo for Best Short Film – and every single filmmaker will be there, several alongside their actors. The winners will be announced after all seven films have been screened.

As always, the heart of the film program is Cinema Slottsskogen, built together with Film i Väst. Films also screen at Bio Capitol. Read more at wayoutwest.se/film-2026.
