The world-renowned Swedish producer, songwriter, and artist Björn Yttling is best known as the “Björn” in Peter, Bjorn & John — the group behind the global hit single “Young Folks” — with whom he has toured worldwide for decades. But few know that he is also a trained jazz musician. In his youth, Björn even took the train to Stockholm every week for private lessons with the legendary Esbjörn Svensson. In 2005, he released his first album under the artist name Yttling Jazz, and is now finally set to release new music soon. It has been recorded with some of Sweden’s top jazz musicians, several of whom will also be performing on stage at Stay Out West.

This is dynamic, cinematic instrumental music with elements of jazz. Here, Björn blends influences from his personal style as a songwriter and producer for other artists with his jazz background. The inspiration ranges from Brian Eno, film composer Nino Rota, and Jean-Michel Jarre to Charles Mingus and Thelonious Monk — as well as Jan Johansson’s album Jazz på svenska.
