When Yasiin Bey (fka Mos Def) and Talib Kweli released their joint effort ’Mos Def & Talib Kweli are Black Star’ in 1998, it became the catalyst for a radical change in hip-hop culture. All the sudden, lyrical, political, jazzy underground rap ascended from the basements and became a dominant cultural force for years to come. Bey and Kweli eventually went back to pursue their respective solo career, but in 2022 Black Star returned with Madlib as sole producer with the album ‘No Fear of Time’.
