This week the spotlight shines on Honey Dijon. DOn’t miss this at Dungen – Red Bull Music Stage.
Grew up on the south side of Chicago and learned about art, fashion and music by reading magazine after magazine: I-d, Interview, Vogue, Elle, Details and others. “They were my salvation. When I felt like no one wanted to play with me or be associated with me, they were my friends”, Honey Dijon told Vice.
By the age of 12 she used to sneak into clubs and it was at such an occasion she heard Chicago house music legend Frankie Knuckles for the first time.
In the late 90s Honey Dijon – legal name Honey Redmond – moved to New York and it was then her career as a DJ, with close ties to the fashion world, took off. Later she explained to New York Times: “For me, house music has never just been about DJing and fashion has never been about clothing. It’s always been about the possibility of a more beautiful life.”
