This week the spolight shines on Connan Mockasin – a Stay Out West must-see this year!
His last album Jassbusters is the soundtrack to a yet to be released movie about a fictional music teacher and his student, who the teacher mistakes for a girl and falls in love with. In the movie, Jassbusters is also the name of a band consisting of music teachers only.
The New Zealander whose real name is Connan Hosford have collaborated with everyone from James Blake to Charlotte Gainsbourg, while his own music at times resembles Ariel Pink but mostly resembles nothing at all but perhaps can be described as Dire Straits on a Valium cure.
Connan has said that the last album he got really excited about was the Andre 3000 half of the Outkast epic Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, which was released sixteen years ago.
