Few Swedish artists have their feet so firmly planted in 2018 as Mwuana do. ”A musical renaissance” he calls the current musical climate, and if that is correct he surely is a prince. From the moment he became someone to keep a very close eye on, with the EPn ”1: Spiridon” from 2015, his journey has in some way been both as straight as an arrow and creatively crooked. On the one hand, a respectful take on classic hip hop with dirty lyrics about the seedy parts of town – on the other, a disrespectful thirst for experiments, taking chances and doing the less obvious combined with lyrics about the big questions. The name Mwuana was given to him during a stay in Uganda, which is said to mean a ”bully with a glint in his eye” or just ”brat”. But after listening to the debut album ”Triller” released last year, we feel that the brat is dangerous close to being a man already.
Although Mwuana has been hovering on the outskirts of the industry for quite a few years, it was with three EPs with three different producers released in 2015 he really started drawing a new direction for Swedish hip hop. The debut album ”Triller” was released last year and got Mwuana three Grammis nominations and an award as best Hip hop/R&B at this year’s P3 Guld gala. Last autumn he toured the country, playing sold out shows almost everywhere. We are very pleased to be able to welcome him to Slottsskogen this summer.
Mwuana will perform in Slottsskogen on Thursday August 9. Get tickets for one or three days here!
