Spotify transformed music listening forever when launched in Sweden in 2008, the year after the birth of Way Out West. This year, social sustainability will play an even bigger role at the festival through the official partnership with Spotify’s Equalizer Project – an initiative that celebrates and connects women and non-binary music creators to increase equality in the music industry.
Way Out West’s festival line-up has 50/50 male and female-fronted acts this year but of the music performed on stage, 85% is written and produced by men. Spotify’s Equalizer Project aims to inspire more creators to become part of the music industry to even out the numbers.
Visitors of Way Out West 2019 will be able to test their skills as music producers in Equalizer’s Pop-Up Studio with the online music tool Soundtrap while being inspired by some of Sweden’s most talented producers in action, working in the studio right there on site. At Höjden, Linnea Henriksson will host Equalizer Talks – interviews and discussions on the important topic of equality in the world of music.
In addition to the Equalizer Project partnership, Spotify and Way Out West have more surprises lined up so stay tuned.
