”I don’t want to be your fucking dog/that you drag around”. You won’t forget when you first heard the song that broke the twenty year old Nashville talent whose real name is Sophie Allison. Your Dog, as the song is called, is about an abusive relationship and leaves no listener indifferent. As Soccer Mommy, Allison is known for her insistent and emo-intense guitar pop. What The Hell Is A Cowgirl? was the title of the very first song she wrote.
Following a couple of well-received Bandcamp-releases, she dropped her debut album Clean last year, and it turned out to be something resembling an indie rock smash. DIY wrote about it: “In typical Soccer Mommy fashion, there’s little flashy footwork to be found here; only expertly-shaped understated songs that give more with every listen.” Since then Soccer Mommy has gained further attention through intimate covers of Bruce Springsteen’s I’m On Fire and Dixie Chicks’ Wide Open Spaces.
