The transformation was gradual but still surprising. Norwegian-Mexican Carmen Villain, once a guitar based indie artist, is now a full-fledged experimentalist. Her atmospheric music is embroidered with pianos, field-recordings, drum machines and synthesizers and the result is a distinctive blend a folk, jazz, electronics, ambient and avant-dub. And although many components are electronic, the music of Carmen Villain is deeply rooted in the sounds of the natural world. This is music made for deep listening – a Fourth World carefully created to get lost in. On her fifth album ‘Only Love From Now On’ (2022) – considered by many critics to be her best work yet – we find Villain as unpredictable and dynamically electroacoustic as ever. Don’t miss worldbuilder Carmen Villain when she comes to Stay Out West this summer!
