Some artists write songs, other artists write stories. Like Ghana’s brightest stars Black Sherif whose stunning debut album ‘The Villain I Never Was’ (2022) bravely strays from overused themes and hollow bragging. Over a unique fusion of hip-hop and Ghanaian Highlife the 21-year-old delivers his distinctive melodic rap while covering topics such as his homelessness, anxiety, inferiority, and death. There is no doubt that the path Black Sherif travelled has been dark, but somehow, he remains inspirational and seemingly absent of anger.  Black Sherif has collaborated with big names such as Burna Boy, Vic Mensa and ArrDee but no features are required to realize that we are dealing with a talent of extraordinary proportions. Don’t sleep on Black Sherif and, accordingly, make sure to catch him at Way Out West next summer!
