One of the most captivating Scandinavian voices for almost two decades. Started out as a fairly conventional singer-songwriter but with every new record she keeps changing and expanding her sonic vision, although never without her trademark, crystal-clear voice and her unique intimacy. For her yet to be named eighth album, to be released in the fall, And Brun has been inspired by the sounds of artists such as SiR, Kendrick Lamar, Anderson Paak and Solange, but also 90s trip-hop. Don’t Run and Hide, a first taste of the new album, is out now and Friday August 14 Ane will perform at Way Out West.
Ane Brun grew up in a musical family in Molde, a Norwegian coastal town. In 2001, she moved to Stockholm and it was there her musical career took off. Debut album Spending Time with Morgan was released to great acclaim in 2003. Over the years she has collaborated with Peter Gabriel, Ron Sexsmith, José González, Tonbruket, Koop and many more, and she’s had considerable success with cover versions of Beyonce’s Halo and Cyndi Lauper’s True Colors. Ane says her vision with the new album is ”to make emotional music that also makes you wanna move”.
Ane Brun will play at Way Out West on Friday Aug 14.
