ELECTRONIC HEAVYWEIGHT’S CONFIRMED FOR WOW17

FLUME [AU]

The most exciting producer to come out of the SoundCloud-generation is calling himself Flume. With a will to incorporate weird sounds in his productions without leaving the formula of pop music, Flume has taken over all major streaming services these past years. His collaborations with Tove Lo and Kai from his latest full length ”Skin” have gone from regular hits to viral hits. In the world of Flume, genres such as future bass, hip hop and house can live next to each other in harmony while always feeling somewhat familiar. That’s because the core of Flumes songs tend be classic, meanwhile his productions feels modern and groundbreaking. It’s just like TIME Magazine stated: “it sounds like the future of electronic music.”

Harvey Edward Streten originates from Sydney in Australia, and became a global phenomenon after his remix of Disclosure’s ”You & Me”. The year before he had released his self titled debut album, but it wasn’t until now that his work started getting the attention it had always deserved. Last year he released his second album ”Skin” for which he got nominated for 13 ARIA Awards and won eight of them. Since, Flume has released two companion EP:s to ”Skin” – ”Skin Companion EP 1 & 2”. That artists such as Beck, Vince Staples and Pusha T all have worked with Flume this past year is proof enough – this is the future of electronic music.

DIPLO [US]

Diplo points, and everyone else follows. It’s few people who today can be regarded as influential in steering the development of popular music as Wesley Pentz. Regerdless if it’s as a part of Major Lazer, Jack Ü or on his own – Diplo always tend to be in the forefront when it comes to production and the usage of sounds. Apart from other producers, Diplo always focuses on the song. That’s the reason why his catalogue features so many hits of different kinds. M.I.A., The Weeknd, Beyoncé and Justin Bieber – the list of world stars that’s been blessed by his innovative productions can be made long. Apart from being the studio wizard that he is, Diplo is also known for his crazy live performances that most often equal a pounding party.

Diplo has been active since 1997, but rose to prominence through his work with M.I.A. With another M.I.A. collaborator, Switch, he later formed Major Lazer who where behind one of the biggest hits of 2015 – “Lean On” with MØ on vocals. Diplo has been nominated for six Grammy Awards and has won two, both of them with his project with Skrillex, Jack Ü.

JON HOPKINS [UK] (DJ-SET)

Jon Hopkins paints atmospheric soundscapes with a gentle brushing technique. In small things, he sees big things, and he usually doesn’t need more than a vision to be able to create grand musical pictures. His big break through came with the album ”Immunity” released in 2013, where Hopkins crafted a gentle mix between ambient and pumping electronic music. The album was later nominated for a Mercury Prize, and gave Hopkins the reputation as one of the greatest composers of both his genre and generation. Currently Hopkins is at work with finishing his highly anticipated fifth solo album. During his exclusive DJ set at Way Out West we might get to hear fragments of his new work – expect an astounding experience.

Jon Hopkins has a background as a classically trained pianist, and his debut album ”Opalscent” was released in 2001. During 2004 Hopkins started collaborating with the ambient master Brian Eno, which later also led to an invitation to co-produce Coldplay’s chart topping album ”Viva La Vida”.

 FATIMA YAMAHA [NL]

Men vad få visste var att sleeperhiten ”What’s a Girl To Do” redan hade varit släppt i lite drygt 10 år innan dess.
