The Way Out West 2013 crowd spontaneously sings 'Girl On Fire' after the Alicia Keys concert. Amazing! We love you!
This is a fantastic victory for everyone that's been struggling with this issue. For Omar and his musician, for Way Out West and above all the audience. This shows that you can correct a wrong.
We send a big thanks to everyone who has helped out this past week. We’ll see you in Slottskogen tomorrow!
You can also get the schedule in our excellent app. So download the app and create your personal schedule to get the latest updates and news straight to your mobile.
RFID is short for Radio Frequency Identification and means that all our festival bracelets will have a micro chip on them that has a unique digital signature for each festival goer. Intellitix, who are the world leader in RFID solutions for events, have developed this secure, safe and fraud-proof technology that brings with it a host of new possibilities. Among other things this means that those who choose to opt in will have a live link to social media and social networking sites during your time on the festival grounds. You will be able to share your experiences on Facebook, publish status updates and check in at the different gigs through “Live Click Stations” that can be found throughout Slottsskogen. There will also be photo stations and other fun stuff to explore.
Register for a chance to win prizes!
As extra motivation for you to register your wristband we will be giving away some pretty amazing prizes to a bunch of lucky winners. Among the items up for grabs are a Sony Xperia Tablet Z, Spotify Premium subscriptions and tickets to Way out West 2014. (There’s also a chance to watch Miguel’s gig from the stage on Friday (at the Azalea stage at 21:15.) The winner will be notified by e-mail and SMS on Friday at 7pm.)
How to register?
From Wednesday you will be able to pre-register your wristband at http://welcometo.wayoutwest.se. Once you’ve exchanged your paper ticket for a festival wristband all you need to do is visit the website, enter your information and you will be all linked up and ready to go. If you don’t want, or don’t have the ability, to pre-register, you can register at the Sony service center on the festival grounds. They will also be there throughout the festival if you have any questions or encounter any issues with your wristband.
Spotify & Way Out West – A match made in heaven
Activate your “smart wristband” and Spotify will pitch in and add to the advantages by keeping track of all the concerts you choose to see during the festival. All you need to do is check in by touching your wristband to one of the many check-in stations at each stage for each artist you watch. Spotify will then keep track of what gigs you’ve been to and at the end of each day send you a customized e-mail where you get artist profiles and the setlists in playlist form – ready to listen to and enjoy with Spotify – for the artists you saw. Set lists for all performers will also be gathered on the Way out West Spotify profile, so why not follow us right now? http://www.spotify.com/wayoutwest is the address.
FYI. the RFID chips are passive which means they are not tracking people..
We look forward to seeing you in Slottsskogen, more connected than ever before!

It's outrageous that Sweden is the first country in Omar's career to refuse him a visa. Given the situation in Syria it feels even more important for artists to be able to express themselves freely.
Mistakes and miscalculations can be made. But everyone can correct their mistakes, change their minds and do the right thing. Now, we give Swedish authorities the chance to do just that. Omar Souleyman has a slot waiting for him at Way Out West in Slottskogen next week. Omar has already said yes if he is admitted in to the country. We say - welcome Omar! And to the Swedish authorities we say; here is your second chance.
"I could not believe the reason for which my visa was denied - that of Sweden being afraid that I will want to stay there and apply for a residence permit when I arrive. I am a musician who travels all over the world and to all western countries to sing for people and to make them dance.I have never ever had any wish or intention to remain in any country that has issued me a visa that enables me to perform for people there. It is clear to anyone who will take a look at my extensive touring history for the last 5 years in the western world - where I have been and how many borders I have crossed. Hundreds and hundreds.
I have a family in Syria and I have no intention of ever abandoning them. The Embassy had the information clearly of all my children, wife, brothers and sisters, parents, who all live in Syria. I support them and give my life for them. I have never had nor will he ever have any intention to defect into Sweden. I love my home as troubled as it is right now, more than anything.
The decision of the Consulate is very wrong but I have accepted that; now I hope that my management will do everything together with promoters in Sweden to correct that."
They came from the neighborhoods of Long Island with their hearts in the right place and clenched fists that whitened in the air. Chuck D and Flavor Flav planted the seed for one of the hip-hop worlds absolutes. Together with Professor Griff, Terminator X and The Bomb Squad, they have created history that is completely submerged in revolution, anger and awareness.
From the first seconds of "You're Gonna Get Yours" from their debut album "Yo! Bum Rush The Show, "which was a brutal kiss in both the stomach and the head, it was understood that Public Enemy was the future then and there, here and now. Nothing else could disprove it. Nothing else was even more evident through the "It Takes A Nation of Millions To Hold Us Back" and "Fear of a Black Planet". The rest is history, as told again and again by new generations of fans who discover one of the world's most important bands.
The year is now 2013 and Public Enemy is entering the world of Way Out West. Our own reactions over this, small laughters, wondering whether it is true or not, and an intense desire to have a sweaty experience to "Fight The Power", may stand as witnesses how important they still are. Public Enemy

Daytime Sessions and Daft Punk Daytime Sessions is a concept from the Stockholm club Trädgården, to bring daytime partying back to the people who actually like music and they were deservedly rewarded for this by receiving the Nöjesguiden award for club of the year.
At Way Out West we know the joy of starting the party early in the day and we have taken on-board those that share our attitude. At 12 (noon) we press play. With brunch no less. We say: “Lets Dance!”
The Daft Punk Edition Daytime Sessions will salute and praise its namesakes. With their long-awaited new album achieving huge success, not least here in Sweden, we invite you to a party in their name and in their honour. Giorgio Moroder will be standing on stage, yes the one and only, who features on the album and the video for, “Random Access Memories.” This will be one heck of a celebration. Don’t miss it.
Influenced by the dance floors of Munich and Moogs Modular-synth, he produced music that was motoric, spacious, trippy and immortal, far from the contemporary, relentless rocking disco. The year was 1969 and the Italian exile would certainly make “music of the future” but never anticipated the extent or the impact his work would receive. He contributed a very European aesthetic to the black USA dance rhythms and with Donna Summer created two of the ultimate dance anthems, “I Feel Love,” and “Love to Love You Baby.”
It was with Human League’s Phil Oakley that he created his own biggest hit in 1984 with, “Together in Electric Dreams..” His footsteps are heard all over British synth-pop from the Pet Shop Boys to New Order. As a three time Oscar winner, he is also second to none when it comes to composing sound tracks,. The quintessential 80s films are accompanied by his work including Flashdance, Top Gun and Midnight Express’ monumental tune “The Chase.” He is one of the biggest and most revered producers of electronic music. His name is Giovani Giorgio, but everyone calls him Giorgio.
In just 10 days the gates to Slottskogen will open for Way Out West 2013. A party that, before this message is finished, is on it’s way to being sold out for the 7th year in a row. A party that, even before this message was started, will showcase world-class artists such as Alicia Keys, Neil Young, The Knife, Rodriguez, Kendrick Lamar, The Roots, Cat Power, Beach House, James Blake, Tame Impala, Miguel, Johnossi, Grimes, Phosphorescent and many more. A world-class film program that offers exclusive premieres of everything from, “Monica Z,” ”Before Midnight,” to “Fast Cash.” A wonderful art program from Stine Nordenstam. Exciting adventures in night-time Gothenburg with Lykke Li, Lorentz & Zacharias, Kate Boy, Mikal Cronin, Mykki Bianco, Unknown Mortal Orchestra and many more. And of course, thousands of revellers. We have to continue. We can’t stop there. The best can only get better. Anything to get people to get on their feet.
Our friends. Our friend: Håkan Hellström.
This year has belonged to Håkan and his insane procession of impactful pop that, with a unifying force, brings us all together. A Swedish pop icon that has taken Slottskogen under his wings before, with magical results. He is an icon that has an approach to loss, joy and wonder with such a depth and accuracy and so founded in history, that he has a style that is very much his own.
This will be totally unlike anything Håkan has done this summer. A summer that due to exclusivity clauses and cancellations resulted in a very choosy dose of Hellström at festivals.
“I love to meet the audience at festivals and have had abstinence surround me this summer. Now I get the opportunity to play at Sweden’s best festival. No way I am missing that,” says Håkan.
The 2010 gig that Håkan played resulted in a highly acclaimed live album. What will this year’s gig bring? Lets decide together next Friday. Let every day from now be a celebration for this summers grand finale.Håkan Hellström
